
Celebrated historian Ann Curthoys participated in the 1965 Australian Freedom Ride, established the Women’s Studies Program at the ANU, and there became the Manning Clark Chair of History. Her new book The Last Tour: Paul and Eslanda Robeson’s Visit to Australia and New Zealand examines the fascinating life of African-American singer and civil rights activist Paul Robeson and his wife Eslanda – a United Nations journalist – and their interactions with the Australian left and social movements in 1960.
